Traditionally, students who did not pass a required course were expected to complete credit recovery during summer school. If they could not recover the credit over the summer, they were assigned the credit recovery course during a designated period in their regular school schedule.
To streamline this process and improve academic outcomes, we are implementing a more structured approach: Beginning this year, students who do not successfully recover course credit during summer school will be required to retake the full course the following academic year.
Examples:
Susie did not pass either semester of English 9. She attended summer school and successfully completed both the fall and spring semesters through credit recovery, so she does not have to re-enroll in English 9 during her sophomore year.
Johnny also failed both semesters of English 9 but did not participate in summer school. As a result, he will retake English 9 in both semesters of his sophomore year, while also being enrolled in English 10.
Matt failed the spring semester of English 9 and opted not to attend summer school. He will retake the spring semester of English 9 during his sophomore year in addition to completing the full year of English 10.
Reminder: Summer School Registration is May 27 in the High School library from 9:00 - 1:00.
Students are responsible for looking in HAC to see if they need to recover any credits for required courses.
