title school reconfiguration 2026-2027

Prairie Grove School District is excited to share that the Arkansas Department of Education has officially approved our district’s school reconfiguration plan for the 2026–27 school year.

This plan was developed after gathering feedback from parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. Superintendent Luke Humphreys presented the recommendation to the Prairie Grove School Board on November 18, where it was unanimously approved, pending state review. With that process now complete, the district is ready to move forward.

What’s Changing?

Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, students will transition to new grade configurations designed to better support learning and long-term growth:

Prairie Grove Elementary School will shift from housing Kindergarten–3rd grade to serving Pre-K–2nd grade and will be renamed Prairie Grove Primary School.

Prairie Grove Middle School will shift from serving grades 4–6 to serving grades 3–5 and will be renamed Prairie Grove Intermediate School.

Prairie Grove Junior High School will shift from serving grades 7–8 to serving grades 6–8.

There will be no changes to the configuration of Prairie Grove High School.

Why This Change?

This reconfiguration allows the district to better balance enrollment, reduce overcrowding, and create learning environments that are developmentally appropriate for students at each stage. It also helps keep curriculum and testing standards consistent within each building, supports staffing and funding efficiency, and prepares Prairie Grove Schools for long-term growth — reducing the need for future reconfigurations.

Our mission has always been to provide a secure environment of educational excellence. These changes reflect careful planning, community input, and a commitment to doing what’s best for our students.

What’s Next?

Families will receive additional details as the 2026–27 school year approaches. The district is committed to making this process as smooth and positive as possible for students and families.

Thank you to our Prairie Grove community for your continued support and engagement as we plan for the future.
