Emma Berry, an incoming 6th grader at Prairie Grove, recently had the opportunity of a lifetime as she attended the Junior National Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., from July 14–18. This unforgettable experience allowed her to meet and make friends with students from across the United States while developing valuable leadership skills that will serve her well into the future.
During the weeklong conference, Emma worked closely with her advisor and peers to sharpen her abilities in decision-making, communication, collaboration, and social awareness. Through group activities and real-world simulations, she learned how to use her personal interests to tackle complex issues facing communities and future generations.
Emma was selected to serve as the Secretary of Defense for her group, a role that challenged her to think critically, solve problems, and contribute to her team’s overall success. In addition to strengthening her leadership and communication skills, Emma took part in daily workshops designed to boost future readiness in areas such as critical thinking and public speaking.
Throughout the trip, Emma had the chance to walk in the footsteps of our nation’s leaders and explore some of the most iconic landmarks in American history. Her itinerary included visits to the U.S. Capitol (including the floor of the House Speaker), the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia, the Natural History Museum, and numerous war memorials.
This incredible opportunity not only broadened Emma’s horizons but also ignited a passion for leadership and civic engagement that she will carry with her for years to come. Congratulations, Emma, on representing Prairie Grove with pride!
