Changes to the student handbook

 Birthdays

Birthday treats

Although birthdays are special, they are a special time to be celebrated with families. Due to nutritional guidelines, the classroom is NOT the place for celebrating with a party. There will be no cupcakes, candy, or special snacks brought to school for the purpose of celebrating a birthday.

We would like to note that a teacher/ staff giving a special treat to a student on their birthday will be allowed, as long as all students receive a treat on/near their birthday.

These regulations are enacted pursuant to the authority of the State Board of Education under Ark. Code Ann. §§ 6-16-132, 20-7-133, 20-7-134, 20-7-135, and Acts 846 and 1079 of 2015.The law reads that “Students may be provided any food and/or beverage items during the school day for up to nine (9) different events each school year to be determined and approved by school officials. These items may not be provided during meal times in the areas where school meals are being served or consumed.”

Birthday Invitations

Birthday party invitations will not be passed out at school. In an effort to make it easier for parents to get invitations to others, teachers will create and send home a class directory no later than the Friday after Labor Day.

This directory will contain addresses and phone numbers of all parents in the class who wish to participate by sharing their information.
